I'm trying to clear my plate, see? What? You think getting a book deal is the end of the process? Just sit back and wait for the funds to come rolling in?
Yeah, not so much. Now comes more work. The book will likely go to an editor who (if he or she is doing his or her job right) will rip it apart and send it back to me with a curt note saying "Try writing a good book this time!"
Or something like that.
Anyway, I have no idea how extensive those changes will be, but I want to be ready for it. So, I'm polishing up a bunch of short stories that I've written and sending them all out to magazines I think might make a good fit. There's a novella-sized work I've been trying to conquer for a good while that I've finally made progress on, and may actually be able to finish, soon, so I can find a good home for that. With all those done, I'll be ready for the first round of edits/rewrites.
And THEN I can just sit back and watch the money roll in.
No? Not so much?
I didn't think so.
Guess I better get to work then, huh?
Chris,
P.S. Hie thee on over to the "Howling Season" tab, if you would. I've got some Halloween goodness I'd like to share!
